History -

Mamie Ruth is a brand created by an ambitious, young girl, Emily back in 2008. 2009 was Mamie Ruth’s first runway collection, which was shown at Charleston Fashion Week.

Design Aesthetic -

Emily’s aesthetic is very free-spirited and happy. In Emily’s interview with “The Working Girl” (Atlanta based fashion blogger) she states that “I love anything with a Woodstock feel. The way that I got my label out there is that I would design my own outfits for music festivals. I feel like you can dress louder and weird for music festivals and leave your inhibitions behind. People were asking where I’d gotten my dress or skirt, and it inspired me to stick to that aesthetic, because it makes people feel good. I learned to step outside of the box and have fun with your clothes.”

In the most recent Mamie Ruth collection of Fall 2014 Emily sticks to her aesthetic effortlessly, creating the most high end and glamorous festival clothes of the century. The textiles used are compelling and the fabric is always comfortable and appealing. Velvet, exaggerated bell shapes and loud prints take over the collection in the best way possible. The head dresses, props and dream catchers are all handmade. On top of it all, everything is made in the USA or by artisans in Guatemala for fair wages.

Mamie Ruth is by far my most favored up and coming designer of 2014 and I’m interested and excited to see what Emily brings to the runway in 2015.
